A source is more useful when you know what it can—and cannot—tell you.
Read the original paper, look at the people or models studied, and notice what replaced what. A study of repeated frying is not the same as a study of an oil eaten in a mixed diet.

Linoleic acid & inflammatory markers
Johnson and Fritsche reviewed 15 randomized trials in healthy people. They found virtually no evidence that adding linoleic acid increased the measured inflammatory markers. This directly tests a common inflammation claim; it does not answer every question about processed foods or repeatedly heated oil.

This review included 19 trials and 6,461 adults. Increasing omega-6 fats may have little or no effect on overall deaths or cardiovascular events, with possible reduction in heart attacks. Many outcome estimates were uncertain because of limitations in the studies.

The Minnesota Coronary Experiment
A reanalysis of a 1968–1973 trial found that replacing saturated fat with a linoleic-acid-rich intervention lowered cholesterol but did not demonstrate a mortality benefit in the recovered data. Incomplete data and the historical institutional setting limit how widely the result can be applied.

Fatty-acid biomarkers & heart disease
Higher linoleic acid biomarkers were associated with lower risks of several cardiovascular outcomes. These are associations, not proof that changing one oil causes those outcomes. Other diet and lifestyle differences may contribute.

Soybean oil diets & gene expression in mice
Researchers reported changes in hypothalamic gene expression in male mice fed high-fat soybean-oil diets. Both conventional and lower-linoleic soybean oils produced changes, so the finding does not isolate linoleic acid as the cause. This study generates questions; it does not establish a human disease risk.
